Chiweenie puppies are some of the most popular pets with people who have a liking for dogs. This popularity stems from the fact that the puppies are not only easy to manage but also they also get along well with other pets at home, such as cats. The puppies cannot be said to be natives of a particular country or region of the world. This is because they are actually crossbreeds between Chihuahua and Dachshund breeds. In order to properly understand the puppies, it is only appropriate that the two breeds are understood.

Chihuahua breed

Originally from Mexico, the Chihuahua happens to be the smallest dog that one can find. The Chihuahua is known to be a very swift dog but very graceful and always alert. The dog has a head that is apple-shaped with large eyes that tend to protrude. The body is long when compared to its height. It also has large ears. Because the dog is highly susceptible to injuries due to its fragility, it is mainly an indoor pet. It is a very good companion pet.

The Chihuahua dog features a long coat that is soft to the touch. It also has a lot of hair on its tail, legs and on the feet. Some Chihuahua dogs have short coat that is dense and glossy. Because of its alertness, the dog is very good at alerting the owner on whatever is happening in the house, something it achieves by barking. The dog has a tendency to get attached to a family member and will always be reserved in the presence of a stranger. While it is prone to health problems such as hypoglycemia, patellar luxation, collapsing trachea and heart problems, a properly cared for Chihuahua dog can live up to fourteen years.

Dachshunds breed

Although also small, the German Dachshund dog cannot be said to as small as the Chihuahua. It is muscularly built with very strong legs and body. It is a loud-barking dog, something that makes it one of the best watchman dogs available. The Dachshund is highly intelligent, alert and is always aggressive to a stranger. Apart from being a good watchman dog, the Dachshund is also a very good hunter dog and likes to frequent gardens. Due its aggressiveness, the dog requires proper training to prevent any acts of disobedience.

Due to is nature, the Dachshund will normally be aggressive towards other pets at home. It likes to dominate other dogs and will tend to scare away other pets. For this reason, it needs to trained from an early age to co-exist peacefully with other pets. Because the dog is usually active, lack of activity impacts negatively on its health. Most idle dogs do become obese, which leads to both internal and back health problems. A properly cared for Dachshund dog can live up to fourteen years

It is from the above two breeds that the Chiweenie puppies are obtained. The big difference in behavior and characteristics of both breeds means that crossbred puppies also exhibit different characteristics. While some puppies borrow heavily from the Dachshund and therefore are generally aggressive, other Chiweenie puppies to exhibit characteristics of the Chihuahua breed.
