Boxers are not small dogs, they are very playful, energetic and active. The boxer likes to be included in everything. Is boisterous dog what suits your family and your lifestyle? These dogs mature very slowly, therefore you have to wait around three, four years for them to stop acting like puppies. The boxer needs to be with its family and thrives on human companionship. In fact, if they don’t spend time with their owners, they tend to become “bad” dogs. So, if you are considering “a backyard” dog type, look for another breed.

For that reason, be prepared for daily brushing in between seasons, but still expect to find some of the hair on furniture and floor. Short hair also means they are not to be exposed to extreme temperatures. These dogs are house pets, although you have to provide them plenty of “outside time”.

When it comes to training, owners should teach the boxer good manners and this dog requires obedience training. Luckily, these dogs are very intelligent, which means training should be firm, yet fair and fun. This is independent dog, very willing to learn and work with you, but absolutely unwilling to be ordered around. Naturally, boxer is a guard dog looking after family, house and property. In fact, they might be too protective for some owners or not guarding enough for others. In most cases, training should be performed carefully in order to grow a dog that suits your preferences.
