Pet Sitting vs. Kennel

The holiday season is getting near and, if you are a pet owner, you are probably concerned about what to do with your beloved furry companion. Kennel or pet sitting, that is the question. Let’s discuss both solutions with a little help of an experienced Friendswood Dog Trainer & Pet Sitter.

Kennel is very popular solution for people who need to leave their pets for couple of days. Luckily, steel or plastic cages, cold concrete and depressing environment are not common these days. Instead, it’s really easy to find a pet hotel with all sorts of amenities. Pricing for boarding varies tremendously depending on the package you choose. Boarding at a veterinary facility is preferred by many pet owners, because they want their pets to have constant access to veterinary care. Nevertheless, most of these facilities as sterile and old-fashioned, completely focused on medical and surgical cases rather than paying attention and playing with animals. No matter which kennel option is in question, most pets are uncomfortable outside of their normal environment. Stress causes diarrhea and vomiting and pets are likely to loose weight when boarded.

Pet sitting, in general, comes in two types. Some pet sitters live at the pet owner’s house to pay constant care of animals (or at least at night), but this is not so common type yet. Other pet sitters come to the house at specified times to allow bodily elimination, feed and exercise/play with the animal. Pricing for pet sitting also varies, but these services are commonly priced at basic boarding levels. Even feeding a live-in pet sitter is usually cheaper than add-ons at kennel facilities. Although pets always show signs of stress when their owners are not at home, it is less severe if they don’t change their normal environment. In addition, having a pet-sitter can protect owner’s home.
