Are you unsure about whether your pet dog is in the best health or not? Are you always worried about something would happen to your dearest four-legged friend and s/he won’t even be able to tell you? And are you confused about if something is to be done about your dog’s health, what to do exactly? Don’t panic or don’t be stressed up. If you love your dog, you will take her/his best care. Dogs suffer from ailments that are mostly similar to humans, e.g. dental disease in dogs. Here are some easy home remedies which are enough to ensure that your Fido is in good health.
Save Your Dog from Dehydration
Dry mouth, skin lacking elasticity and panting are symptoms of mild dehydration. Keep your dog well hydrated by providing her/him adequate water every day. Often we tend to feed our dogs well, but forget to give them drinking water, which can be very dangerous. So, giving water to dogs to drink is a thing that should be never forgotten.
Remove Burs from their Coats
An easy way to remove burs from your dog’s coat is to apply a dab of vegetable shortening to the coat which will loosen the burs. Once all the burs are cleared, shampoo her/him to remove all the shortening.
Remove Fleas in Non-toxic Way
Fleas are sheer nuisance for your dog and you too. But there is an easy and harmless home remedy. Take a small amount of biodegradable (organic, herbal) dish-washing liquid in a tubful of water and make a soapy solution. Bathe your dog in this solution. Work the lather in her/his coat for over 5 minutes. This soap is absorbed in the exoskeleton of the fleas and kills them more effectively than a flea shampoo.
Take Care of their Teeth
Taking care of your dog’s teeth is extremely important since it can affect her/his overall health. Though their dental needs are quite different than that of humans, the care needed is almost same. They need a dental professional’s attention just like us and also a healthy lifestyle which includes a healthy diet and exercise. Dogs suffer from many dental diseases though fortunately they hardly go through tooth decay. For complete information on how to take care of the dental health of your dog, visit Dogsaholic.com.
Prevent Ear Infections
While bathing your dog, you may not be aware of the fact that her/his ears are allowing a lot of water in, which can lead to ear infections and earaches. To prevent this, take cotton balls and moisten them with baby oil and block her/his ears with them. This will keep water out of your pet’s ears. Don’t forget to remove the cotton balls after bath.
Relieving Arthritis Aches
Dogs too suffer from arthritis pain! You can help soothe the pain of your beloved dog by filling a sock with uncooked rice (not too compactly), heating it in a microwave for a minute and placing the warm sock on the painful joints for 15 minutes. Repeat twice in a day.
Soothing Itchy Paws
If your dog is suffering from itchy paws, fill the bathtub with water up to 1-2 inches (just enough to take in her/his paws) and add 3 cups of Epsom salt. Dissolve the salt. Stand your dog in this water for 5-10 minutes. The Epsom salt will soon relieve the itch. Keep an eye on the pet to prevent her/him from drinking the water, because Epsom salt is a laxative. After 5-10 minutes, remove her/him from the water and pat dry her/his feet.
