Cats at Work

cats on workHave you heard about office cats or corporate kitties? If you are an animal lover, you would surely be happy to work in a company that has several office cats that help employees get through the day. We’ve found out that there is at least one company believing that cats help keep employees happy, productive and head-butted. Well, a company like this is definitely warranting serious consideration for the best organization to work for. The philosophy is simple: who makes a cat happy, in turn will become happier. As we know, cats are not “yes, sir” animals like dogs, they are more honest and they do not enjoy brown-nosing.

Advantages and disadvantages of having corporate cats:

  • Positive: Crumpled up post-it note is now easy to get rid of. Say “Fetch!” and enjoy the scene!
  • Negative: Someone steals my coffee creamer! Who?
  • Positive: It’s so calming and relaxing to pet a lap kitty.
  • Negative: My seat is unavailable. I would like to have my seat back!
  • Positive: Oh, you have an office mascot. She is adorable!
  • Negative: Is there any intact roll of toilet paper?
  • Positive: It’s better to watch hyperactive cats bouncing around your workspace than watching the same situation in a video while you are supposed to be working.
  • Negative: Our pull cord used to have a handle and office blinds were asymmetrical when we first started here.

Usually when I head out the door early for work, I look at my cats still snuggled up in my bed. Yes, I’m a little jealous, because  my cats don’t have to wake up early and head to their jobs. And, also, I miss them a lot. If I would have cats as co-workers, I would surely be more productive and I would have the way to lower the pressure and to stay calm and relaxed. In addition, one shelter animal could get a place called home – although it would be an office. However, before suggesting it to your boss and co-workers make sure that all of them are cat lovers and that they don’t have an allergy to these furry angels.
