Pet Adoption: Kitten or Adult Cat?

adopting a kitten or an adult catWhen people look at cute and funny pet pictures and see a kitten, they usually say “awwww”. Those cute large eyes, over-sized ears and the fact that they look so soft and furry make them irresistible. When considering pet adoption, many people choose kittens rather than adult cats. It is not hard to understand, but there are some things you should know about kittens before deciding to adopt them. Honestly, I just want you to reconsider your choice and maybe to give a chance to some grown up cats to become your beloved pets and to show how incredible companions they can be, even though they are not so playful and cute as kittens.

A kitten needs more patience, care and time and that’s a fact. You need to spend enough time with them, to train them, make sure they understand what litter box stands for etc. Whenever you are not watching a kitten, you might expect it to be hanging on the drapes and making mess around. Yes, they are energetic, curious and playful and therefore they like to explore your home and to play around. If you have young children, kittens might not be the good choice, because they can hurt your children, unintentionally, as well as they can be hurt by your kids, because they might not understand how gentle those furry balls are. Also, an adult cat is sleeping most of the time and therefore she does not need you all the time. This means you can leave a cat at home, while you go to work, for example. Kittens need your patience, time and care to raise them, to watch over them and to keep them out of trouble.

Finally, keep in mind that a kitten will be a kitten just for a short period of time. If you find that only kittens are cute and that adult cats are not, maybe cats in general might not be a good choice for you.
