Have you decided to adopt a kitten? It is a great decision and you can be absolutely positive that owning a cat will make your life happier and more fulfilling. But, before welcoming a new pet into your home, consider adopting two kittens at the same time. Here are the reasons for it!
Cats are great pets because you can leave them alone during the day and they would be alright with that. Cats, not kittens. A kitten left alone can easily become bored and lonely and that feeling sometimes leads to mischief. Having two kittens is the perfect solution to this problem, since they will never be bored and lonely, especially if you adopt siblings. This is why in many shelters you can find a cage containg two kittens with the “may only be adopted as a pair” sign.
If you already own an adult cat, be sure a kitten will drive your veteran pet nuts, while two kittens (I agree, it sounds contrary) will be better accepted. Here is why! A kitten will try to make an older cat a playmate, it will pester and tease the senior cat which can be quite stressful. Grown up cats would answer to this with swats and hisses. If you adopt two kittens, they will play with each other while leaving the older cat to relax in peace. Keep in mind that kittens need to burn off the energy. Human owners will quickly become exhausted in their wish to keep up with the kitten’s energy. When you own two kittens, they will wear themselves out, so you will be free to sit and enjoy watching them play.
All animals learn by copying and kittens are no exception to this rule. If one kitten learns to use litter box appropriately, the other will soon copy it. They will also help one another with grooming and the washup. Also, they will act as pillows for each other. Can you imagine any sight more endearing than two lovely kittens curled up together sleeping.
When it comes to behavior problems, kittens are less likely to have them when they are paired. The reason for misbehaving, when you have two kittens, is the same as in humans: it’s better to have a negative attention than no attention at all. When a kitten is bored, owner can experience its behavior problems. As mentioned above, when you have two kittens, they won’t get bored.
When two kittens grow up together, they will become lifelong friends. It doesn’t mean they will not have their little squabbles from time to time (do you know human friends who do not?), they will spend more time mutually grooming, sleeping and playing together. Think about your own best friend. If you have possibilities, try not to deprive your pet of the enrichment the best friends bring to our lives.
