cute German Shepherd pup with a sad lookIf you have a puppy, you are bound to get tempted to catch photos of your most beloved four-legged friend. Why not? Have you come across a pup that is not photogenic? I haven’t and I am sure you too haven’t. The cute pictures of puppy dogs make nice ornaments in our drawing hall showcase, on our writing table, bedroom wall, even in kitchen and literally anywhere! Here are some puppy photography tips.

1. Natural Light is the Best

Natural light is the best for any type of photography, but it is especially best for pet photography. Flash can cause red eye. But major reason to avoid it is, it can frighten your pet. Best is to take the pet out, or if you can’t make it, take pictures at home in a room which is well-lit.

2. Pay Attention to Eyes

In any type of portrait photography, eyes are very important. They are windows of the soul! Eyes of your puppy are very expressive. So, give special attention to her/his eyes while taking pictures.

3. Make Them Comfortable

It’s important that your pet should feel comfortable while you shoot them. Talk lovingly and cuddle her/him, and if possible, let her/him touch (but not handle) the camera (not its lens and in case of a phone, not the screen or camera lens), so that s/he is assured that it is nothing evil there.

4. Shoot from Their Level

We always see animals from above. Pet photos become far more interesting when shot from their level. Sit or lie down, or place the puppy somewhere at the upper level, like an upper shelf of a cabinet, but be careful not to scare her/him. Importantly, make it a point to take photos from their eye level or below.

5. Let the Character or Mood of Your Puppy Show in the Picture

What is the character of your puppy? Is s/he lazy? Or is s/he playful? What is her/his mood today? Let her/his picture show her/his character or mood. Catch her/him yawning, playing with a ball or pouted like in this beautiful picture!
