New Puppy – Choosing The Right Name

When a new puppy enters your home, he/she brings a lot of joy and happiness to your ordinary world. There are many things you think about and perhaps you are a little bit anxious if you will be able to provide your new family member to live happy and healthy life. But, there is one thing you should also think of – to find a dog name! Over the course of your lovely dog’s life, you will be using his/her name over 30,000 times. You will use that name dozens of times daily to call, praise and sometimes shout and scold. Therefore, it is important to choose a name for your new puppy wisely.

With some tips in finding the perfect name for your pet, we will try to help you. First of all, it is good to pick a name that your puppy could easily recognize. Commonly, one or two syllable names are better, because animals respond them better. Of course, think about the fact you will be shouting that name in the park, on the street and wherever you go. So, choose the one that is not embarrassing. Avoid those names that sound similar to some common commands such as: stay, down, come, sit, fetch, yes, no etc. “Bo” will sound similar to “No”, so your puppy would be rather confused.

Even though you can choose any name you like, longer names are not easy to be shout, so it is good to think about and choose the shortened version. Your dog’s breed and even if it is stray dog, might inspire you. So, if you have a Poodle, some French name might be the best choice. Of course, your puppy will show his/her character, personality in the first several days after coming to a new home. Physical appearance and behavior may help you to choose the name. However, keep in mind that your cute little puppy will grow up and that name should be appropriate for a grown up dog as well.
