Weaning Puppies To a Raw Dog Food

Taking dogs early on a raw food diet will let them to get the most advantage from this kind of diet. If you can get them on this kind of diet since their puppy hood, that would be great. That will assure that they get all the important nutrients they need in a form that their bodies are completely ready to handle. That is why it is strongly advocated weaning puppies to a raw food diet as quickly as possible.

When you detach your puppies, you will start off with milk meals to detach them from their mother. This means puppies at their early age of 2.5 weeks can be put on this kind of diet. If you like to wait until your puppy is three to five weeks old, that is great as well.

While making milk meals, make sure you use raw or fresh milk. Goat’s milk is recommended as it is good  for the puppies since they can easily digest it, but if that is not available, other types of milk like cow’s milk are good too.

Apart from goat’s milk, you would also have to combine other ingredients into the milk of your puppies meal to assure that it gets all the important nutrients for the growth of puppies. Normal things to combine include flaxseed oil, yogurt, unprocessed honey, eggs and more. Some owners also combine vitamin B and C supplements. Combine all these things in a blender and mix them well before feeding it to your puppy.

When they are  only few weeks old, you will have to feed your puppy according to it’s demand, which is normally four to five feedings per day. Take your clue from how often they nurse from their mother.

When your puppies are about six weeks old, you can start looking for signs that they are ready for solid food. You may see the mother throwing out her food and feeding it to her puppies. You may also observe that your puppies have teeth now.

When you notice these indications, you know you can begin with some solid food to the diet of your puppies. A perfect first food would be a mush made of vegetables that contains fifty percent protein.

Make sure to mix the food well together. This will assure that your puppies get all the important nutrients that they need from the meals that you feed them. While serving vegetable, try to avoid greens from cabbage since they can give gas and thyroid problems to your puppies.
