Many people suffer from pet allergies and yet they own a pet. All animals we keep as a pet including cats, dogs, hamsters, birds and ferrets give off the dander. Contrary to common belief, it is not pets’ hair that causes allergies, but specific proteins in the dander that some people are allergic to. Pet allergens can also be found in pet’s saliva and urine. Allergens are proteins, and therefore ubiquitous, easily airborne and tiny. Obviously, true animal lovers believe that benefits of animal companionship outweigh the hardship of allergic reactions. However, if you have a pet allergy and want to live comfortably with your furry companion, you should learn about allergies and allergy management and you should be willing to follow some practical and sensible rules. So, what can we do about it?
Make your bedroom pet-free sanctuary, if possible. This can significantly decrease the level of allergens. Plus, it might be helpful to switch to special bedding that is designed to be less allergen-permeable. Air purifiers for dander and pet odors are an immense help. There are many available choices nowadays, so you should look for the best appliances for your needs. When choosing the model, you should consider the size of the particles that purifier can handle, the size of your room etc. It is important to love housework if you are dealing with a pet allergy and keeping a pet. Try to vacuum the living space frequently, shampoo rugs regularly and change bedding (both people and pet) often. Also, wipe down walls where your pet rubs and do the dusting frequently. Also, try to brush your dog or cat outside, as often as possible.
Your pet is a very integral part of your life and with a careful management, you can alleviate allergic reactions in your home.
