Reliable Pet Care For When You Go On Holiday

It is the time of year when many families are looking forward to a summer break away from home. Whether you’re off for a relaxing break in the Maldives or off sightseeing in Paris there is no doubt that the holiday preparations are well under way. Some people worry about their passports arriving on time and others about the size of their hand luggage but with about 45% of the world’s households owning a dog, this should be top priority on the holiday preparation list.

As the saying goes, ‘a dog is a man’s best friend’ and are such a joyous animal to own, dogs become part of the family but often they get left behind when the rest of the family go away on holiday. There are many options to consider ensuring that your dog is properly cared for whilst you’re away on holiday, the most popular two being placing them in kennels or seeking a pet sitting service. Therefore I have taken these two options and weighed up the pros and cons to help dog owners ensure that their dog is in safe hands.

Kennels

Every dog is different, therefore we need reassurance that our dog is treated as an individual and not receiving the exact same care as any other dog. You will need to research different kennels and the services that they are offering to ensure that your dog is being given the attention it needs. Look out for a kennel that is clean and is devoted to animal care. To determine the kennels trustworthiness take a look at review sites you may find that people have left their feedback of the service that their dog was given.

Pros

Most kennel owners are expert within the field of dog care, therefore if you take your dog to a quality kennel you can be rest assured that your dog is in the hands of someone that knows what they’re doing and can overcome any obstacles your dog may have, such as being put off their food because they are away from home.

Cons

Whilst in kennels your dog will not receive a home from home environment, it is likely that for the majority of the day they will be locked away and are only allowed to roam free in the gardens for a short amount of time per day.

The owner of the kennel will also be looking after many other dogs at the same time therefore you dog will not receive the attention it is used to at home.

Pet sitting

If you choose a pet sitting service your dog will be matched with a carer and will live with them in their home for the duration of their stay. This will ensure that the dog is given the attention it is used to at home.

Pros

Your dog will be in a home from home environment which means that their routine will be disrupted as little as possible. The carer will feed, walk and play with your dog how you wish and at the times it is used to.

Cons

There are very little disadvantages of pet sitting  services although some may consider it as a more expensive choice of pet care but you pay for the quality of service that is been given to your dog.

Whatever form of pet care you chose for your dog whilst you go away on holiday make sure to research all options that are available. A few extra pounds are nothing when we’re putting our dog’s health and well-being into the equation.
